Since 1918, Loints of Holland’s highest priority has been ensuring that our footwear process is efficient and sustainable. The overarching goal in our environmental efforts are to be fully sustainable in our development and production throughout our whole supply chain. We and our suppliers will do everything that is necessary to reach this goal.
We aim to design timeless products that will not go out of fashion and are durable so they will stand the test of time. We have developed our own design language that saves on unnecessary ornaments or lining so that we keep the variety and use of materials to a minimum. This saves both raw material and energy. It is essential for us to respect the materials we work with, where they come from and how they are produced. The most iconic and valuable material of a Loints shoe is our leather. With this leather efficiency is key and we minimize our cutting waste. We strive to reduce, reuse and recycle as much as possible. Read more about sustainable production at Loints of Holland here.
Sustainable working conditions
We make all of our shoes in our own factory in Hungary. This allows us full control and responsibility regarding the working conditions, especially when it comes to working times, wages and the safety of the facility itself. Our factory workers are well respected and work normal working hours. The working conditions are well arranged and according to European legislation and law. A sustainable supply chain
We only work with suppliers from the European Union to maintain quality. We like to work with suppliers that share our mindset and values. Suppliers that use renewable energy sources, minimize transport and actively keep the use of chemicals and water low.
When choosing materials, we look for properties that keep the negative environmental impact to a minimum. At the same time we look for durability that allows our shoes to last for many years. We prefer natural rubber and use LWG Gold rated Terracare leather. Terracare is the leather from Lederfabrik Heinen (Germany) who manufactures leather without PCP, benzidine and uses over 40% less water than regular tanneries.
Our products are made to last as long as possible. With you taking care of your shoes, we are here to share that responsibility. Our shoes are designed to be repaired easily. This means that our constructions allow us to repair them even if your shoes come to fail. We believe that you don’t throw away your car after your tires are worn out, you simply change the tires.
Thanks to our minimum variety of components and simple design aesthetic, it is easy for us to disassemble our footwear and recycle. At the moment we are working towards a system that allows us to recycle in a larger scale having the end-consumer in mind.
