sustainable design

We make timeless products that don't go out of style easily and are designed to be sustainable, but what exactly does this mean? With sustainable design, we try to reduce the negative effects on the environment and health. The goals of sustainable design are to reduce the consumption of non-renewable resources, minimize waste and create a healthy environment.

Through our sustainable design decisions, we make an impact on sustainable development.

"People don't have a problem with waste; they have a design problem. If people designed products, tools, furniture, houses, factories and cities more intelligently from the beginning, they wouldn't even have to think in terms of waste, pollution or scarcity." - The Upcycle by authors Michael Braungart and William McDonough from 2013.

In practice, there are some general principles for how we approach sustainable design:

- Low-impact materials: We choose natural and recycled rubber and LWG Gold-certified Terracare leather. This is leather without PCP, benzidine and uses 40% less water than regular tanneries.

- Repairable: Our shoes are designed so that it is possible to easily replace specific worn parts.

- Waste management: Waste is already considered in the design of our shoes; for example, some pattern pieces fit together precisely to reduce cutting waste.

- Energy efficiency: Our products are designed with as little stitching, pattern pieces and handling as possible. This way, we use less energy.

- Material diversity: We have chosen to minimize the number of different materials to promote disassembly and value retention.

- Life cycle: Our products are timelessly designed and are durable enough to last a lifetime.

- Detailing: Our shoes require no lining, eyelets or other details. Our design language consists of unlined leather and pure, simple construction.
