Today, the 5th generation leads Loints of Holland. Since 2018, Johan and Ronald Klijsen have been building the brand together on a foundation of more than a century of experience, craftsmanship and character. What they are continuing is not a static legacy, but a living history: an accumulation of knowledge, choices and insights that have shaped Loints into what it is today.
That history can be felt in everything we do. In our distinctive signature. In the natural comfort that is not added afterwards, but considered from the very beginning. In designs that feel thoughtful, clear and made to be truly worn. At the same time, Johan and Ronald are building an organisation that is fully of today — contemporary, focused and future-minded — so that Loints of Holland can not only endure, but continue to grow and flourish.
To understand where Loints stands today, it helps to go back to the beginning.
1918: where it began
The story of Loints of Holland begins in 1918 in Kaatsheuvel, where Cornelis “Kees” Klijsen started working for himself in a shed behind the family home. The beginning was modest, but the foundation was strong: attention to craftsmanship, a natural sense of fit, and shoes designed to feel good in everyday life.
From those very first years, the focus was never on excess or passing novelty, but on shoes that feel logical, are well made and become part of the wearer’s daily life.
Rooted in the Langstraat
Our name refers to the stream De Loint, which once ran through the Langstraat region. Its clean water played a role in the early shoe industry of the area. That makes the name not only distinctive, but deeply connected to the origins of the brand.
For generations, the Langstraat has been the heart of the Dutch shoe industry. It was there that Loints began: rooted in a region where knowledge of leather, shape and wearability was simply part of everyday life.
Passed on from generation to generation
What began with Kees Klijsen was then carried forward by the generations that followed. Each generation added something, refined something, brought new insights — without ever letting go of the core.
The same idea remained recognisable throughout: shoes should have character, feel natural and be thoughtfully designed. Never loud. Never excessive. But clear, distinctive and made with care.
From shoemaker’s workshop to brand
Over time, the company evolved from an artisanal foundation into a brand with a clear signature of its own. Loints developed further in shape, collection and expression, while remaining true to its starting point: comfort is not an extra layer, but the point of departure.
That is how a recognisable design mentality took shape. Silhouettes with character. Shoes that move naturally with everyday life. Designs that do not push themselves forward, but prove themselves in how they feel, how they wear and how naturally they become part of daily life.
A history that continues into the present
The strength of Loints lies not only in how long the brand has existed, but in the way that history is continuously translated into the present. For us, more than 100 years of roots does not mean holding on to the past for its own sake. It means knowing what truly matters, continuing to select, refine and build.
That is what Johan and Ronald Klijsen are working on today. With respect for everything that has been built before, and with a clear view of the future. That is how Loints of Holland keeps moving: carried by generations, shaped by experience, and ready for what comes next.
