Sustainable Production
At Loints of Holland, we are aware that making products always has an impact.
And that consuming products rarely has a truly positive one.
That awareness shapes the way we work.
We do not claim to be perfect.
Instead, we try to make considered choices—step by step, season by season.
Materials
A large part of the leather we use comes from tanneries that are certified by the Leather Working Group (LWG).
This means these suppliers meet internationally recognised standards for environmental management within leather production.
Not all of our materials meet this standard yet.
Where they don’t, we continuously evaluate alternatives and improvements.
Production
Since 2024, new production has taken place in Turkey and Spain.
Our current collection also still includes styles produced in Hungary.
We choose to work with a limited number of factories and suppliers.
Not because that is the easiest route, but because it allows us to remain closely involved.
We know the people behind the factories personally and value the relationships we build over time.
We visit our production partners regularly to speak about materials, construction and the way our shoes are made.
Just as importantly, these visits allow us to see the craftsmanship up close—people working with care, skill and dedication on the shoes we bring to market.
Scale and responsibility
We are a relatively small, independent brand.
That scale allows us to stay involved in decisions that matter—from materials to production to distribution.
It also means we can keep an overview of how and where our products are made.
We believe that responsibility starts with being close enough to understand what you are doing.
Close to home
Producing in Europe is important to us.
Not from a regulatory or trade perspective, but from a geographical one.
We prefer to work with partners that are relatively close to where our company is based.
This allows us to maintain direct relationships and keep travel distances manageable—for ourselves, but also for materials and finished products.
Part of our production takes place in Western Turkey.
Geographically, we consider this part of our European production landscape, although we understand that this is a nuance that can be viewed differently.
Longevity and repair
One of the most meaningful ways to reduce impact is simple:
make products that last.
We design our shoes to be worn for many years.
Where possible, they can also be repaired or resoled—extending their lifespan even further.
This is not always possible for every model, but whenever it is, we encourage it.
Keeping a product in use longer often has more impact than replacing it with something new.
Continuous improvement
We see this as an ongoing process.
Not a finished story.
Each collection, each supplier and each material choice is an opportunity to improve—within the reality of what we can oversee and manage as a small brand.
Closing note
We do not believe in perfect products.
We believe in conscious decisions.
And in staying involved—so that those decisions remain real, visible and accountable.
