Sustainable production
The production of our shoes roughly consists of three elements: selecting sustainable materials, a sustainable production process and fair working conditions.
By choosing sustainable materials right from the start, we try to keep our ecological footprint small. We choose non-toxic, sustainably produced or recycled materials that cost little energy. The most valuable and iconic material of a Loints shoe is the leather. Our leather is LWG Gold-certified Terracare leather. Terracare leather comes from Lederfabrik Heinen in Germany, they produce leather without PCP, benzidine and use 40% less water than regular tanneries. With the use of our leather, efficiency is very important and we make every effort to minimize cutting waste. In addition, we use natural rubber or recycled sole materials as much as possible. We only choose materials that are strong and durable enough for our finished product to last a long time. For example, our soles, we glue and stitch them so that they are extra strong and have a longer lifespan.
In addition to the sustainable materials we use, the manufacturing process also makes our shoes sustainable. Because of our minimalist design ethic and high quality materials, fewer operations are required to produce a pair of shoes which means less energy is consumed. We strive to reuse and recycle as much as possible. This efficient method of production ensures that we can still produce our shoes in Europe at an attractive price.
We are proud of the fact that all our shoes are made in our own factory in Hungary. As a family business we have always had the vision to run as sustainable a business as possible with an eye to the future. We want this to provide the best quality, which we believe cannot be achieved by exploiting people or unsafe working conditions. As a 100-year-old family business with our own factory, we know our employees and will not easily switch factories for a better price. We find this essential to provide the ultimate quality.
Not only the factory but also all the materials we use come from Europe. European products give us the guarantee that the quality of the goods is actually good. Thanks to these shorter lines, this is the best way to maintain a good relationship and guarantee ethical working conditions. In addition, because of the shorter distance, there are also less co2 emissions. We believe that good working conditions and less co2 emissions from transportation are at least as important for a sustainable product as the production process.
