Why this one

One boot for the city, the woods and everything in between

The Vliegert is not a seasonal model you wear for one winter. It is built to last for years, and to be maintained along the way.

Laces and a zip

The zip to step in, the laces to set the boot to your own instep. You do not have to choose.

More cushioning

This sole absorbs more than our other models. You notice it on pavement and cobbles, without the shoe becoming bulky.

Removable footbed

The footbed comes out, so your own orthotic fits in. Spare footbeds are sold separately.

Built in parts

Sole and footbed can be replaced. A fresh footbed after a few years and the boot feels new again.

Small batches

Choose your colour

We make every colour in a small batch. New colours arrive step by step, always in small numbers, so what you see is what there is. Crossed-out sizes are sold out.

Nubuck up close, Vliegert Dark Bordeaux
Made to stay

A boot you repair instead of replace

We believe in building in parts, out of a circular way of thinking. That is why the sole can be replaced and the footbed lifts straight out. What wears out gets replaced, the rest simply carries on.

The lasts are ours. They do not sit on a factory shelf for anyone to use. That is why a Loints still feels like a Loints after ten years.

  • Nubuck that breathes, with no lining to chafe
What we are working on

Back to the core, in the present

Loints is renewing itself. Not by becoming something else, but by going back to what it was about in the first place: a shoe that shapes itself to the foot, made of material that comes from somewhere. What we develop along the way, we do not keep quiet.

A better footbed

A new footbed is coming for this group. Until then we say honestly what is in there now, instead of pretending it is finished.

Fit we dare to name

We measure how our models actually fit and put it on the page, even when it costs us a sale.

Small batches

We would rather make a few hundred pairs in a colour that is right than fill a warehouse. New colours arrive step by step.

Loints of Holland since 1918

Five generations, one conviction

That a shoe should shape itself to the foot and not the other way round. That started in 1918 and it has never changed. We do not make shoes you have to break in until they hurt, but shoes you stand in without thinking about them all day.

Fit

How to choose the right size

We would rather tell you in advance how a shoe fits than have you send it back. For the Vliegert, this is what to know.

In doubt? Go one size up

This boot runs slightly smaller than our other models. If you are between two sizes, take the larger one.

Wide at the front, set with the laces

The toe is wide, so your toes have room. The laces let you set the rest to your own foot, tighter or looser, and after that the zip is only there to step in.

Your own orthotic

The footbed comes out. If you wear your own insole, allow for half a size of extra room.

Rather ask first

Email or chat us with your usual size and the width of your foot, and we will tell you which size we would send. In your language.

Frequently asked

What else you might want to know

Is this boot waterproof?

No, it is leather without a membrane. With a good waterproofing spray it handles a rain shower well, but it is not made for walking through puddles.

Can I use my own insole?

Yes. The footbed is removable, so your own insole fits in. If you want more room in height, a thinner footbed gives you that straight away. We also sell spare footbeds.

How long does the footbed last?

That depends on how you wear them. A collapsed footbed takes a minute to replace yourself, and it makes more difference than you would think. The boot itself lasts years longer.

What if it does not fit?

Then you register it yourself in our returns portal. There you say whether you want another size, another colour, or simply your money back. You can return within thirty days. In the Netherlands, Belgium, Germany, France and Italy that is free; elsewhere you pay the return shipping. If you are not sure which size to pick, send us a message first.

Will these colours come back?

Every colour is a small batch. New colours arrive step by step, so these five will not be here forever.

Why does this boot look different from most boots?

Because the last is different. Our lasts are round and wide at the front, so your toes have room instead of tapering to a point. That is a different tradition from the narrow last you see a lot in southern Europe. The laces then let you set the boot to your own foot.

Are they lined?

No, unlined leather, and that is a deliberate choice. The leather shapes itself better to your foot, there is no lining that can chafe at the seams, and it breathes better. That is why you can wear them across more of the year. For the cold months: add a wool sock. It does the work of a lining, and you can wash it.
